Multiple Teams · What must we BE if we want to HAVE exceptional things or results?

Two weeks ago I shared my new favorite thought. It is this: “We must Be before we Do, we must Do before we have.”

The principle I gathered from this is that if we want good things, we must be of such character that attracts good things.

You may even think of this as we reap that which we sow.

I wrote of having a strong work ethic and commitment to preparation being necessary for people to do great things.

I wrote that these characteristic of success must be so prevalent in our lives that they permeate our entire lives, not just on the field.

Though the course of the 2020 LHS baseball season, we will be exploring closely qualities we must live out or Be, in order for us to Do the things we need to Do in order to give our selves the chance to Have the things we want to Have.

Today, I would like to focus on a necessary characteristic or value called mental toughness or mental strength. Today I will share a partial list of 13 things that Mentally Tough people do not do. Most of this comes from the book “13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do”. I have added some of my thought in a few places.

1.) They don’t waste time feeling sorry for themselves

Mentally strong people don’t sit around feeling sorry about their circumstances or how others have treated them. Instead, they take responsibility for their role in life and understand that life isn’t always fair or easy.

2.) They don’t give away their power.

They don’t allow others to control them, and they don’t give someone else power over them. They don’t say things like, “My coach makes me feel bad,” because they understand that they are in control over their own emotions and they always have a choice in how they respond to perceived injustice.

3.) They don’t shy away from positive change.

Mentally strong people don’t try to avoid change. Instead, they welcome positive change and are willing to be flexible on matters that do not conflict with principle. They understand that change is inevitable and believe in their abilities to adapt and have a place in that change process.
